Do you need a clear or Yellow RoHS Compliant chromium-free metal pretreatment for zinc and aluminum that will pass XRF inspection testing? Only "SafeGard-CC" gives paint adhesion and the required corrosion resistance that will keep your products working in the field not returned for corrosion or coating failures! Chromate-free SafeGard CC-3400 is Qualicoat approved and Sanchem is ISO-9001.2000 certified.

Why SafeGard CC-3400 is the New GOLD Standard conversion coating for aluminum:
Excellent paint base –
SafeGard CC-3400 is QUALICOAT Approved for painting architectural aluminum.
Golden color coating or clear coating can be achieved using only one tank for aluminum.
Meets ASTM Standard B-921-02, Non-Hexavalent Chromium Conversion Coatings on Aluminum.
Passed 6 months outdoor exposure testing at LaQUE Corrosion Services to meet 3M requirements.
Chemically and UV stable.
Easy to use and monitor.
Can be touched up with our cold applied SafeGard CC-6100.
Note: this is not a yellow dye, it is a true conversion coating!
Questions often asked about SafeGard CC aluminum conversion coating:
How do I know if the pretreatment chemical has been applied properly? SafeGard CC reacts chemically with the aluminum to give an easily identifiable gold-brown color. If the aluminum was not cleaned properly, no color change will occur. With the iron phosphate coating, zinc phosphate coating, polymer or chromium trivalent are not available in yellow/gold. Unlike these other pretreatments, you don't need paint failures to tell you the surface isn't properly treated.
What method should I use to certify that my product is RoHS compliant? The least expensive and easiest test is the XRF. All SafeGard CC products will pass this test, but chromium trivalent will not!
Can you pass RoHS Compliance Requirements of Customer Incoming Parts Inspections? SafeGard CC can be effectively and efficiently be inspected for RoHS -Compliance using either a standard inexpensive XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) scanner or grinding metal using wet chemical treatment methods. Joe Johnson of Cisco Systems said that XRF is the preferred testing method because it is non-destructive to the part, easy to train inspectors to use and inexpensive to run.
How does it work? X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Testing for Chromates - the X-ray fluorescence technique utilizes the physics of the interaction of gamma rays (from the excitation source) with electrons in the target element (Cr). The XRF instrument causes Cr to fluoresce (emit X-rays), and measures the amount of fluorescence. (Note: both hexavalent and Chromium trivalent show up as Cr!)
Can chromium trivalent conversion coatings oxidize in air and turn back to chromates on your parts? Have you ever seen a clear chromium trivalent treated part start turning yellow on the edges? The only valance state of chromium that is yellow is HEXAVALENT CHROMATE! A current Sanchem CC-3400 conversion coating customer had some parts treated with a clear trivalent pretreatment on both zinc and aluminum parts. They had a shipment rejected in Europe and shipped back to them at their expense. The parts had started developing a yellow color on the edges. The parts were sent to a lab that used ESCA (XPS - x-ray photo electron spectroscopy) testing equipment. Upon running these parts, the laboratory had determined that 10% of the chromium trivalent had converted back to hexavalent chromate! The parts had failed again.
How do I know when the surface treatment is it thick enough? SafeGard CC Only reacts long enough to give a coating thickness specific to the alloy you are working with. Other pretreatments have coating weights that vary with time and/or temperature. If their coatings weights are not in the proper range you will have paint adhesion problems.
Is a pretreatment with paint adhesion and corrosion resistance necessary? Corrosion resistance prevents underfilm corrosion due to defects in the secondary coating which will end in paint failures.
Can I leave pretreated aluminum in its unpainted form? SafeGard CC aluminum pretreatment provides excellent corrosion resistance without paint. Simple cleaning, or all other chromate-free pretreatment systems, leaves the metal open to corrosion.
How difficult is it to maintain SafeGard CC surface treatment solutions? Other system require a complex series of pH and concentration adjustments. SafeGard CC is self indicating. A change in, or the absence of, the characteristic gold-brown color of the metal indicates that something is wrong with the system before you have a paint failure.
Are there time restraints on painting or surface finishing after pretreatment? NO, you may paint right after pretreatment and drying or a year or more later.
What about excessive heat? Unlike chromate which will decompose when heated above 150 F, SafeGard CC is completely inorganic and is not effected by the high temperatures used in powder coatings.
What about disposal? SafeGard CC pretreatment chemicals contains no toxic or harmful chemicals and as such is easy to dispose of. This feature of Safegard CC metal surface treatment may be the single most important benefit to you.

Get the Golden color that your customers expect and are demanding with SafeGard CC-3400.
Clear protective coating can also be obtained with SafeGard CC-3400. Meets ASTM Standard B-921-02, Non-Hexavalent Chromium Conversion Coatings on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys. (NOTE: This is the replacement for ASTM B-449).
Electrically conductive – passes the requirement of Mil-C-5541 for electrical contact resistance for a class 3 coating. Perfect for all types of surface finishing including e-coat!
SafeGard CC is the best chromate-free pretreatment in terms of corrosion resistance and paint adhesion. Simple disposal
No aging or curing required before topcoat application.
Economical – one gallon of SafeGard CC-3400 concentrate can treat up to 10,000 ft2 of aluminum!
Sanchem is ISO-9001:2000 Can be used for wrought aluminum, aluminum castings, magnesium, stainless steel and zinc< Can pass the ASTM Scratch resistance test when used with SafeGard CC cleaner/deoxidizer system. Excellent high temperature stability – coating can not dry out and mud crack. Apply by dip, spray or brush.. High performance pretreatment will reduce your need to use costly surface finishing such as high performance paints in favor of a lower cost paint or powder coating. This change will yield a major cost savings. Use your current equipment with little or no modification.
No sludge builds-up in tank.
Use SafeGard CC when RoHS compliance and Your company's product performance are important.
