Conversion coating for galvanized steel & zinc
SafeGard 3400Zn - is a RoHS compliant chromate free chemical conversion coating that will give you better paint and adhesive adhesion then hexavalent chromate conversion coating.  Safegard CC is not affected by heat and will not dry out and mudcrack the way standard chromate conversion coating do. This is due the fact that this chemical conversion coating reacts quickly with zinc at the molecular level it is not just a barrier coating but a true conductive conversion coating.   The process should be used on zinc castings, zinc plated steel and galvanized steel. The Safegard process is easy to control and can be applied by spray, brush or dip.
  Meets ASTM Standard B-940-05, Non-Chromate Chemical Conversion Coatings on Zinc Surfaces.

SafeGard 3400Mg - is a RoHS compliant chromate free chemical conversion coating that will give you better paint and adhesive adhesion then hexavalent chromate conversion coating.  Safegard CC is not affected by heat and will not dry out and mudcrack the way standard chromate conversion coating do. This conversion coating quickly reacts with magnesium to create a protective barrier.  The Safegard process is easy to control and can be applied by spray, brush or dip.

Safegard CC-3400seal #2 Conversion coating system for aluminum

SafeGard CC-3400seal#2  is a RoHS chompliant chromate free seal aluminum, zinc and magnesium.  This final seal will help you achieve maximum corrosion resistance and paint adhesion on corrosion susceptible alloys such as 2024 aluminum and 380-cast aluminum. For shop/field repairs, you will get the same performance with our cold applied SafeGard CC-7000 when used in combination with the SafeGard CC-3400seal#2.

MIL-C-5541E: issued November 30, 1990 –Chemical Conversion Coatings on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys

Section 3.6 Corrosion resistance properties - At the end of 168 hours exposure to the 5% salt spray test specified in 4.5.1, the specimen panels treated with the applicable class of chemical conversion coating shall meet all of the following corrosion resistance requirements.

  1. No more than 5 isolated spots or pits (see 6.7), none larger than .031 inches in diameter, per specimen panels. Areas within 0.25 inches from the edges, identification markings, and holding points during processing or salt spray exposure shall be excluded. Loss of color shall not be cause of rejection. (Sec 6.7 -Determination of a corrosion spot or pit. A corrosion spot or pit usually displays a characteristic tail or line)

  2. No more than 15 isolated spots or pits, none larger than .031 inches in diameter, on the combined surface area or all 5 specimen panels subjected to the salt spray test.

SafeGard CC - Seal#10 - Enhances paint and coating adhesion specifically from filiform corrosion on aluminum castings such as (380, 383, 360, aluminum zinc diecastings). This product is to be used with either the SafeGard CC-3000 or the SafeGard CC-3400. Seal#10 is an environmentally safe, clear seal which is applied at room temperature.

Aluminum cleaners
Which cleaner should I use? Selection of aluminuim cleaner is dependent upon the type of soil that you have on your parts. Heavy deposits of wax and oil will require the use of either a solvent or heavy duty alkaline cleaner. If an alkaline cleaner is used it should be followed by treatment in a deoxidizer or mild acid solution because alkaline cleaners leave difficult to remove inorganic deposits and a highly reactive easily corroded surface.

  1. Sanchem 500 - mildly alkaline phosphate based aluminum cleaner for heavy soils on wrought alloys.
  2. Sanchem 550 - mild acid aluminum cleaner for wrought alloys.
  3. Sanchem 555 - stronger acid aluminum cleaner than Sanchem 550 for wrought alloys.
  4. Sanchem 560 - very mild acid aluminum cleaner for castings and wrought alloys.
  5. Sanchem 565 - moderately strong acid aluminum cleaner for castings and wrought alloys.

Sanchem 1000 deoxidizer/desmutter - Thoroughly removes anodizing and difficult black-brown stains caused by an aggressive alkaline sluminum cleaner .  Sanchem 1000 prevents short term surface oxidation making it perfect to passivate the metal prior to anodizing, plating or conversion coating. This nitric acid based deoxidizer contains no fluorides, chromates, or other heavy metals. Studies at Boeing concluded that it will effectively remove anodizing when used at 140F without causing any endgrain pitting. 

  • Sanchem 1000 remove anodizing,  heat scale oxides, aluminum oxide coatings, surface oxides and smut created when using alkaline etches better than competitive deoxidizers in Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and surface conductivity testing.
  • Stable solution does not sludge and has 3x longer bathlife than chromate-type.
  • Easy to monitor and maintain, only nitric acid and Sanchem 1000 are needed to maintain the bath.
  • Sanchem 1000 remove anodizing finishes without attacking the aluminum surface below.
  • Simple Disposal - contains no chromate, peroxide, fluorides, sulfates, ammonia salts, amines, organics or other environmentally sensitive materials.

Chrome free seal for anodizing

SafeGard CC-5000 - Direct replacement for standard dichromate seal used in military applications specification MIL-A8625C. It contains no organics or toxic environmentally unfriendly inorganics. Will not breakdown with heat above 160 F as will dichromate seals, almost identical color to final product and is used at almost the same temperature and time as a chromate seal.  This is not an iron phosphate coating.

Conversion coating for steel
Sanchem 550FE is a mild acid cleaner/surface conditioner that is used as a base for powder coatings on steel and aluminum joined to steel. SafeGard 3400 seal may be used to maximize corrosion performance with this system. This can be used where you currently use an iron phosphate coating.

SafeGard 13,062B is a cleaner and conversion coating solution for use on iron, steel or zinc surfaces. Steel or iron becomes blue-black in color.  Totally phosphate free, it can be used on applications where you currently use an iron phosphate coating.

Conversion coating for tinplated steel
SafeGard 8000Sn - uses a chrome-free solution that will give you the performance of hexavalent chromate without its disposal and health related problems. SafeGard 8000Sn forms by electrolytic deposition a corrosion resistant barrier coating using without trivalent or hexavalent chromium chemistry.
